Dealing With That Pesky Black Cloud
There is a lot to be learned from Walt Disney. Walt was rejected and fired from his company at age 23 because he was not "creative" enough. And what did he do? He kept moving forward. He continued to create. He continued to believe in his work. Walt Disney became on of the most successful entrepreneurs in history. Walt created those fairytales we watched as children, Walt allowed us as children to have dreams and goals. I know when I thought about what my life would be like as a grown up, I imagined it being like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
If there is one thing that Walt and I have in common, it is that we both believe in moving f o r w a r d. The movie Meet The Robinsons came out in 2007, and as a 7th grader, there was one thing that truly stuck out to me from this movie. At the end, a quote from Walt Disney appears, "Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."
Right now, I am working on creating a new path for myself. Are there any. millennials who aren't looking for more? I know I am. Millenials want to be at the top of the food chain as soon as possible, we don't want to start at the bottom. But we have to start from the bottom. And when we start at the bottom, there is a lot of, let's just say *crap*, that we have to go through. It is okay that we have to go through that crap, though. The crap teaches us how to work through things. Things will get really hard before they will get better. During those crummy times, we just want to hide away right? We just want to find the quickest and easiest way to make that crummy feeling stop. Trust me, I get it. But as Walt said, we have to keep moving forward. Once we have worked on the crap, we will know how to work though it again.
Creating a new path is not easy. It is really really hard. I think about how easy it would be to sometimes just stay in my comfort zone. But then I remember, I wasn't happy in my comfort zone. There was a lot more crap there than what I would face by starting a new path. We need to look beyond the hard times and focus on where we want to be. When our current situation isn't moving us forward to our goals, we have to put ourselves into a new situation. We need to make sure that we are setting ourselves up for success. Because success is the ultimate goal, right? Success to me isn't necessarily defined by how much money I make, or how big my house is; success to me is being able to be completely happy. Being able to be completely myself. Being able to continue growing and moving forward, working towards my dreams.
To be at the top of the food chain, we have to start at the bottom. We have to work hard, and work our way up the ladder. We have to work through the crap. We have to step out of our comfort zone. We have to keep moving forward. Because at the end of our comfort zone, we find our dreams.
Hi there! I'm Kelli and this blog is about my life with anxiety, and how I am learning to cope. Looking to God is the only way that I stay sane (well with some help from my family, pets, and boyfriend). My goal is to attempt to be a silver lining for all, myself included.
